A Well Deserved Medal
Doug Bruno won a Gold medal in London this year with the USA Women's Team.
Congratulations to DePaul women's basketball coach Doug Bruno on a job well done in London. Coach Bruno was an assistant coach for USA Women's Basketball team and helped lead them to their fifth straight Gold Medal. Coach Bruno is a well respected coach around college basketball and has been very succesful with the DePaul women's team. Congratulations to him once again on a job well done.
New Home For The Demons?
Rumors have been circling that DePaul is looking for a new home court closer to campus and downtown closer to the practice facility. The hope is that building an arena in the city will draw more of the big name local talent.
Storm on the horizon
Tonight the Blue Demons meet the St. John Red Storm at 9 ET/8 CT at the Carnesecca Arena in Queens, New York. The last time the tew teams met at Allstate Arena on February 1st, the Red Storm topped DePaul by an 87-81 margin. This time around, the Demons need to pick up the defense intensity much more than they did last game. Preferably carrying over their effort from the Lousiville game. The key to the game for the Red Storm is to get leading scorer D'Angelo Harrison open looks early to get into a rhythm. If the Demons can contain Harrison and play smart offensively while taking care of the ball like the first half of the Louisville game (Only 2 turnovers), they should have a good shot at winning. In other news, Cleveland Melvin is 11 points shy of tying for 50th on the all-time scoring list. Melvin is also one block away from moing into 14th on the all-time blocks list.
Jerron Wilbut comes to watch
Yesterday the Louisville Cardinals came into town for a visit to Allstate Arena. The game was intense and it took overtime for the Cardinals to put away the Demons. Although the game ended in a loss for the Demons, they made a strong showing, playing possibly their best game of the year. In attendance to see the game was 3 Star recruit Jerron Wilbut of Downers Grove South HS. Willbut is a 6' 3" Shooting Guard in the class of 2012. He is rated the #27 Shooting Guard in the class of 2012 and the #3 overall recruit in IL for the class of 2012. Wilbut would be a nice edition to DePaul's 2012 class and he is a local player which is always nice to see. No word on whether the Demons plan to extend an offer soon. To learn more about Wilbut, check the Recruiting page for his scouting report which will be up shortly.
